Hello.
Welcome to Colour Club Cornwall
My name is Mel Johnstone, as a mum of three, I know how important creative play is for everyone, my favourite past time with my children is to set up an art project and watch their imaginations thrive, it is a time when I also find myself being fully present and engaged.
I am a qualified Secondary Art & Design teacher and after five years of teaching I moved back into the industry working for various design agencies before starting my own freelance design business which I called “Melonmade”. Colour club is the merging of all my creative avenues, a place where I teach, design and create a community around what I love.
I teach Art & Design to 13–16-year-olds with the National Saturday Club at Falmouth University – I absolutely love this role and it is here I work with home-educated and neurodivergent learners, offering creative experiences that are flexible, inclusive, and supportive.
Colour Club Cornwall is about more than just making art — it’s about building a creative, welcoming community.
My workshops are located at The Yard, a creative hub for businesses in the heart of Newquay. My creative workshops are available for party hire and pop up events too, I offer bespoke birthday party and celebration workshops — Celebrate at the studio or let us bring the creativity to your chosen location.
The studio sessions offer a drop-and-go option, giving parents that much-needed time to run errands or simply enjoy a quiet moment. I often find that young people thrive with the independence these sessions provide.
I am first aid trained and DBS checked, so you can feel confident your child is safe, supported, and free to get wonderfully creative.
We align technical insight with disciplined execution to provide measurable gains across operational, financial, and strategic domains.
